Graphic Design/Web Design Internship

The successful candidate for this position will be a student or recent graduate in a related field of study that wants to gain a great deal of experience that can be put into practice once he/she gets a job in graphic or web design.

We are looking for people interested in learning how a marketing firm or a small organization works. This internship will cover the areas of graphic design and web design, but interns will also have the option to work on sales, marketing, and business development. The goal of all interns will be to improve the organization's market position and to achieve financial growth.

All interns will be supervised directly by the executive director who has over 5 years of experience managing internship and volunteer programs.

primary responsibilities

  • Propose design concepts for web designs or marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, posters, ads, postcards, and other promotional items. Present designs to Executive Director for approval, and discuss need for modification.
  • Understand and translate strategic company goals and business requirements into compelling designs that are visually and creatively stimulating. Produce clean and simple designs and provide coaching on best practices to team members.
  • Understanding of browser compatibility issues, W3C standards, optimization techniques, languages, tools, devices, applications and other environments in which your audience views your work.
  • Manage existing library of communication assets and create new designs for existing templates.
  • Assist in development of graphic standards, templates and guidelines to ensure consistent messaging and awareness of corporate brand.
  • Monitor best practices, trends and new technologies, and evaluate for possible adoption.
  • Make updates to the website and marketing materials.
  • Create HTML emails or new web pages.
  • Finding stock photos that best work for a design.
  • Resizing and retouching photos.
  • Work with external vendors on occasion.
  • Utilizing search engine techniques for marketing optimization and analysis.
  • Maintain archive of images and previous work.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


  • Be able to work at least 10 hours a week (from home or at the office) and a minimum of 150 hours to successfully complete the program.
  • Experience using tools required to produce design, such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Microsoft Word, and Excel (both Mac and PC environments).
  • Excellent design skills, including the effective use of typographic, color and compositions.
  • Must be creative and curious. Ability to look across a broad spectrum of industries and clients to create a cutting edge, contemporary library.
  • Positive attitude, excellent problem solving, excellent communication and grammar skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, a mind for innovation, and extremely detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Working knowledge of: HTML and CSS.
  • Proficiency in XHTML standard compliant websites using HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery and PHP (preferred but not required).
  • Experience using Salesforce (preferred but not required).
