Marketing/Business Development Internship

The successful candidate for this position will be a student or recent graduate in a related field of study that wants to gain a great deal of experience that can be put into practice once he/she gets a job in marketing, small business management, sales, and/or business development.

We are looking for people interested in learning how a marketing firm or a small organization works. This internship will cover the areas of sales, marketing, and business development, but interns will also have the option to work on graphic design and web design. The goal of all interns will be to improve the organization's market position and to achieve financial growth.

All interns will be supervised directly by the executive director who has over 5 years of experience managing internship and volunteer programs.

primary responsibilities

  • Lead generation, data entry, and data management (using Salesforce).
  • Contact current and potential clients (email, mail, or phone).
  • Assistance in the creation of RFPs and presentations.
  • Conduct research of prospective clients, competitors, industries, and markets.
  • Monitor best practices, trends, new technologies, and evaluate them for possible adoption.
  • Work with the rest of the team to coordinate public relations and publicity opportunities, including article placement. May develop relationships with other professional service providers for prospective referrals and/or event co-sponsorship opportunities.
  • Manage existing relationships on an ongoing basis including communicating regularly with existing clients and address any issues that may arise.
  • Work with external vendors on occasion.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


  • Be able to work at least 10 hours a week (from home or at the office) and a minimum of 150 hours to successfully complete the program.
  • Fearless cold-caller. Ability to execute against a lead list on email and phone.
  • Strong research skills - must be able to mine the web for useful information.
  • Strong attention to detail, a mind for innovation, and extremely detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Positive attitude, excellent problem solving, excellent communication and grammar skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to close business to business sales for solutions, services, or products (preferred but not required).
  • Experience using Salesforce or a similar CRM system (preferred but not required).
